DAY ONE. Queenstown to Milford Sound and back to Te Anau – 5 hours 30 mins driving
From Queenstown we drive south along the shores of Lake Wakatipu to Te Anau – the gateway to the Fiordland National Park. Then it’s through the awesome Homer Tunnel and on to Milford Sound for a cruise in this most magnificent fiord, and then back Te Anau to stay overnight.
DAY TWO. Te Anau to Invercargill- 2 hours driving
Before heading south, a visit to the spectacular glow worm caves on the western shores of Lake Te Anau is a must. Then the driver south takes you through some of the most productive farmland in the country, and on to the South Coast with a stop off at Oreti Beach, before heading to Invercargill for the night.
DAY THREE. Day Trip to Stewart Island, fly (20 mins), or ferry (approx. 1 hour) each way
Arrive on the island and you will be transported into a different world where the pace of life matches that of the sea and the tides. Bird life abounds, while nature walks, fishing, diving are all on offer. Stay Invercargill.
DAY FOUR Invercargill to Dunedin via the Catlins – 3 hours 15 mins driving time
This scenic route takes you through the beautiful remote Catlins Forest Park, home to podocarp and beech forests, and then along the coast to Owaka. A look at the petrified forest at Curio Bay, the “nuggets” at Nugget Point, penguins and seals are part of the amazing coastal scenery. Stay Dunedin.
DAY FIVE. Dunedin to Queenstown via Moeraki – 4 hours driving time
A look around the city, perhaps a visit to Larnach Castle and then it’s only a bit over an hour to lunch at Moeraki – famous for the round cannonball like boulders scattered around the beach. Then back across the hills to Queenstown with a stop off in Arrowtown if time permits. Stay Queenstown
Queenstown is the perfect destination for adrenalin junkies; before or after this tour we can organise any number of exciting activities including bungy jumping, whitewater rafting, paragliding, jet boating, and more. In season there is also heli-skiing in the back country available.
