CANTERBURY CAPER 4 DAY TOUR
Starting from NZ$2,000 per person
*based on 4 people in a private group
DAY ONE. Christchurch to Akaroa – 1 hour 30 mins driving
Akaroa is a small French flavoured village in the Akaroa Harbour just over the hill from Christchurch. Get active on the Banks Peninsula Walk, in season visit the penguins at Flea Bay, or take a harbour cruise for a close up encounter of one of the world’s smallest dolphins, the Hector Dolphin. There is also the opportunity to see sheepdogs at work on the hill. Stay overnight in the “silos” at Little River.
DAY TWO. Akaroa to Hanmer Springs - 3 hours driving
Start the day in a hot air balloon for a birds eye view of the patchwork Canterbury Plains if that appeals; then we will drive you north over the braided Waimakariri River through farmland, over the Weka Pass then follow the Waiau River up to Hanmer Springs. This is a hot water thermal resort so upon arrival a soak in the natural hot springs beckons. Stay Hanmer Springs.
DAY THREE. Hanmer Springs to Kaikoura - 2 hours driving
Immerse yourself in the Spa, or go for a hike, a bike or a ride on a horse on one of the many trails in the area. Or head to the Waiau Gorge for one or more of jet boating, bungy, rafting or fishing. Then we head across the mountains via the Inland Road to Kaikoura. Stay Kaikoura.
DAY FOUR. Kaikoura to Christchurch - 3 hours driving
Kaikoura is the home of whale watching. A whale watch tour can take you to see Minke, Humpback and Southern Right whales as well as dolphins and orcas, while it is possible to encounter seals without even getting into a boat. Crayfish are a local delicacy and a popular meal choice. Head down the coast through the wine estates of Waipara back to Christchuch. Stay Christchurch.
Please note that tour excursions are weather dependent and subject to availability. Third party activities may incur additional charges.
